This is also my setup (I played with shr-color-visible-distance-min and shr-color-visible-luminance but this changed nothing). For the record this is also true without screen. Try eww on http://lwn.net/Articles in emacs on black rxvt-unicode: White background, bright blue (or something) letters. Quite unreadable. Ciao; Gregor
