Isn't it odd that a tex file is distributed with orgmode, a pdf and a
text file available on the website. Should we not have a .org version
of the reference card? Can't orgmode produce the reference card pdf from
a .org file?

Good idea -- can you draft something in .org and upload it to Worg?

  http://orgmode.org/worg/

That's another story. We cannot do this for now, but future is
always uncertain :)

I will try to produce an org file but the real utility would be if we
could find a way to produce a pdf out it. My skills are limited and I
really do not know if there is a way to specify a template that will
export the org file with the desired layout.

The utility of an org file (against a tex or a pdf file) will be that
the org gile will allow users to to easily customise their
refcards. That is, if I am interested in a subset of commands rather
than the whole set, an org file could be easily edited and then
exported.

Wonder if it interests the community.

We can write a dedicated exporter for that. Basically, it just needs to
insert a specific header (see doc/orgcard.tex) and to convert list items
into \key{...}{...} entries -- those kinds of things are now possible
with org-element.el and org-export.el.

Yes -- I completely agree.

At least I am interested :) Having an org-clone of the Org reference
card on worg is a good start IMHO.

Thanks again!

Vikas:

Along a similar vein,

Some time ago ( over a year ago) I started an org mode help file. I lost
track of it at the point where babel appeared on the horizon... It's
hopelessly out of date. Very useful, and perhaps I'll pick it up soon and
work on it. It was built up from bare bones text of the reference card.

I am not sure it is what you want, but it's wonderful way to have an online
reference. One feature has been to hae each topic then a link into the
relative section of the manual.

Maybe I'll clean it up, but lots has changed in the interim.

I will come up with the bare bones org file. Somebody will have to
help with the exporter. I have no clue of how this is done.

That's good start. We are already three.

Let us start by a basic org file and see how far we can reach.

Thanks,

Vikas

It could be wise that this Org refcard would be usable by anything-orgcard as
well. It currently uses a text file located at http://orgmode.org/orgcard.txt.

Updating the code of M. Sakurai _should_ not be too difficult to make it work
from a real Org file (instead of a text file).

Best regards,
  Seb

In the attached file, I have put the text of the reference card in org
syntax. Please see and help improve.

Bastien and others, please suggest the way forward from here.

Thanks a lot for this file.

I've added it to Worg and edited it:
  http://orgmode.org/worg/orgcard.html

There are a few places where we need to fix truncated strings
and problematic lines, but on the overall, I think it is really
useful.

Next step is to see how to build the .pdf and .txt version
from that -- but I'd say it's possible.

Thanks again!

Good idea.

I'd say that using the .org should not be more difficult than using the
.txt file, but I don't know the details behind anything-orgcard.

Hopefully M. Sakurai will bend his head over it -- please first things
first, let's make this orgcard.org more useful on Worg!

Best,
