Hi, Emacs!
Is there by now definitive documentation on how to access the ssh+bzr
server? I amended my config file a week ago, and now when I try "bzr
update", I get the following half of an error message:
You tried to execute: bzr serve --inet --directory=/ --allow-writes
Sorry, you are not allowed to execute that command.
bzr: ERROR: Connection closed: Unexpected end of message. Please check
connectivity and permissions, and report a bug if problems persist.
Can somebody perhaps give me the other half of this error message? Or
perhaps help me out otherwise.
The config file I changed was at
~/emacs/emacs.bzr/trunk/.bzr/branch/branch.conf. The change I made was
to replace "sftp:" with "bzr+ssh" each place it occurred. The file now
looks like this:
parent_location = bzr+ssh://acmacm@bzr.savannah.gnu.org/emacs/trunk/
public_branch = bzr+ssh://acmacm@bzr.savannah.gnu.org/emacs/trunk
bound_location = bzr+ssh://acmacm@bzr.savannah.gnu.org/emacs/trunk/
bound = True
submit_branch = file:///home/acm/emacs/emacs.bzr/quickfixes/
Thanks in advance!

You are still using the old IP of bzr.sv.gnu.org. Please make sure that
it resolves to 140.186.70.72 instead of 140.186.70.73.
Andreas.

Is there a newer one I should be using instead? What is it? Where can I
find it documented?

$ nslookup bzr.sv.gnu.org
gives "Address: 140.186.70.72". Is 140.186.70.72 a correct address with
which to access the bzr repository? If so, what else is wrong?

And what do you get from "getent ahosts bzr.savannah.gnu.org"?
Andreas.

140.186.70.73 STREAM bzr.savannah.gnu.org
140.186.70.73 DGRAM bzr.savannah.gnu.org
140.186.70.73 RAW bzr.savannah.gnu.org
Wierd. Surely nslookup and getent should give the same answers?

Not necessarily. AFAIK nslookup always contacts a nameserver, whereas
getent might obtain the IP by other means (e.g. via a hosts(5) file).

FWIW, getent gives me 140.186.70.72.

That was it! I had an entry for bzr.savannah.gnu.org in my /etc/hosts
(without which there is a 20s delay on every name lookup by SSH; I've
been meaning to debug this for about 3 years, now).
Thanks Sven, thanks Andreas!

Depending on the hotspot where I happen to be connected, I get such
problems as well (because the DNS server they tell me to use is
overloaded or something), so I "aptitude install dnsmasq" and I'm now
mostly immune from such problems.
