Can you please provide a recipe on how reproduce this problem starting
from
emacs -Q
?
Can you also provide the backtrace you get when doing:
emacs -Q
M-: (setq debug-on-error t) RET
M-x load-library vc-dir.el RET
then do whatever you do to cause this problem.
