Subject: Custom erases comment when default value restored.
Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 16:53:42 -0500 (EST)	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <200401132153.i0DLrgk15912@ottawa.math.ufl.edu> (raw)

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

In GNU Emacs 21.2.2 (sparc-sun-solaris2.8, X toolkit)
 of 2002-06-19 on diashi.clas.ufl.edu

and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Dear Emacs

Suppose I have customized a variable. The STATE button gives me
the option to Erase the customization.

Unfortunately, this ALSO erases the comment that I just wrote,
explaining (to me) why I don't want to touch this variable and want
its default value.

So perhaps this isn't a bug report, but rather a feature request.
Could you put-in *two* erasures under the STATE button? Maybe

	Erase customization value
	Erase customization value and comment

I suppose one also might want just

	Erase customization comment

NOTE: Sometimes I don't actually want to erase the customization;
I just want to know what the default value is. Within Custom, is
there a fast way to see the dft value WITHOUT erasing the current
value?
	Sincerely, -Prof. Jonathan King
