I guess that would not make David Kastrup happy, for reasons he
explained earlier in this thread.  But I believe that you are
confusing the invisibility property and the display property.  I agree
that message checks for the invisibility property.  The main purposes
of the display property are to change the way text is displayed and to
display pictures.  It can be used to have non-whitespace text
displayed as whitespace, that is "visible" (in the form of whitespace)
but impossible to see.  It is this use of the display property that I
find objectionable and that causes problems.
