I am trying to check in some changes to kill-whole-line.

I registered an SSH Shared key.

I managed to do:

cvs -z3 -d teirllm@subversions.gnu.org:/cvsroot/emacs co .

without problems, but while trying to commit I got:

cvs [server aborted]: "commit" requires write access to the repository

I waited an hour because I believe that was necessary to make sure the
cron job had ran.

I put:

export CVS_RSH=ssh

in my .bashrc.

Eli gave me write permission.

Is there something else I am overlooking?

I tried putting my password in /home/teirllm/CVSemacsdir/CVSROOT/passwd

How do I get recognized when I do C-x v v from emacs? My public key I
guess?

Sincerely,

Luc.

So at least your SSH setup is just fine.

Maybe you should just wait a little longer ?

I rebuilt an entirely new CVS, to make sure that it was not some
remnant information from my old anon that was causing the problem.
>From my "entirely fresh" CVS, i now get a different error message:

subversions.gnu.org: Connection refused
cvs [commit aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages
if any)

Sincerely,

Luc.

You need export CVS_RSH=ssh or setenv CVS_RSH ssh

I might have done something stupid instead of being patient and
waiting for appropriate advice:

[bash2.05b.0 ~ 3 7] CVSROOT=teirllm@subversions.gnu.org:/cvsroot/emacs
cvs ci /home/teirllm/emacscvsdir/emacs/lisp/ChangeLog
Enter passphrase for RSA key 'teirllm@swt40.swt.com':
Warning: Remote host denied X11 forwarding.

Log message unchanged or not specified
a)bort, c)ontinue, e)dit, !)reuse this message unchanged for remaining
dirs
Action: (continue)
absolute pathname `/home/teirllm/emacscvsdir/emacs/lisp' illegal for
server
cvs commit: saving log message in /tmp/cvsOizMwe
[bash2.05b.0 ~ 3 8]

Before that I was using VC in emacs. Where do I go from here?
I will not try anything else in the meantime.

Sincerely,

Luc.

The error message means exactly what it says. You cannot use an
absolute pathname here. Instead, try:

cd /home/teirllm/emacscvsdir/emacs
cvs ci lisp/ChangeLog

I did do that. That was not the problem. (Sorry if I sent this
twice. I have no record in my mail archive file, and did not see it
on emacs devel, so I assume I accidentally erased my previous
reply without sending it.)

Sincerely,

Luc.

I now finally know why I did not get access from Emacs, but did from
the command line. I start Emacs using Super-e, a command I bound
using the starfish window manager. I was, of course, careful to start
a new version of Emacs, after putting:

export CVS_RSH=ssh

in my .bashrc, but I did not restart sawfish. I should have thought
of that earlier. Sorry for all the trouble. Thanks to everybody who
offered suggestions.

Sincerely,

Luc.

You might want to put this into ~/.ssh/config to avoid the warning:

Host subversions.gnu.org
  ForwardX11 no

(See ssh_config(5) for more information.)

Andreas.
