* (standard-syntax-table) segfault on FreeBSD @ 2003-01-13 21:07 Mirian Crzig Lennox 2003-01-17 11:14 ` Kenichi Handa 0 siblings, 1 reply; 5+ messages in thread From: Mirian Crzig Lennox @ 2003-01-13 21:07 UTC (permalink / raw) Has anyone else seen this? I am running a stock emacs-21.2 on FreeBSD. When I evaluate (standard-syntax-table) in the *scratch* buffer, Emacs will print it but crashes with a signal 11 almost immediately afterwards. Giving the -q option to avoid reading my .emacs file has no effect on the problem. This problem seems to be peculiar to FreeBSD. When I try the same thing on the same source version of Emacs running on Debian GNU/Linux, I do not see this crash. --Mirian ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

I've just tried emacs-21.2 and CVS HEAD on FreeBSD 4.6.1-RC2, but can't reproduce that bug. Please run Emacs under gdb and show us the backtrace of the crashing point? --- Ken'ichi HANDA handa@m17n.org ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

I've gotten the problem on both 4.6-RELEASE and 4.7-RELEASE, with emacs-21.2. With some playing around, I've determined that if I start emacs with the -nw switch (to disable X11 support), the problem does NOT occur. > Please run Emacs under gdb and show us the backtrace of the > crashing point? Here it is. I was incorrect about the problem being a segfault; it is actually a bus error: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Program received signal SIGBUS, Bus error. 0x284b1dd8 in _init () from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/common/ximcp.so.2 (gdb) where #0 0x284b1dd8 in _init () from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/common/ximcp.so.2 #1 0x284bd298 in _XimFilterPropertyNotify () from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/common/ximcp.so.2 #2 0x28381560 in XFilterEvent () from /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 #3 0x80b0b20 in XTread_socket (sd=0, bufp=0xbfbd31fc, numchars=4096, expected=1) at xterm.c:9965 #4 0x80d5bc1 in read_avail_input (expected=1) at keyboard.c:6133 #5 0x80d5d86 in input_available_signal (signo=23) at keyboard.c:6296 #6 0xbfbfffac in ??
