I would assume, from this, that you are not yet using TEI-Emacs. It is a wonderful mode, that along with SGML/XML, does really nice stuff with all the variants of strict/transitional in HTML and XHTML, along with providing much enhanced Unicode and font support. You can download it from the TEI web site at http://www.tei-c.org/Software/ If you have any problems with it, the people on the TEI mail list are very helpful.
