The city was thrilled with the 51st annual scholarship awards distribution ceremony of the Student Welfare Organization at Khalikdina Hall yesterday. The ceremony was attended by a large number of people representing all walks of life. Naib Nazim Karachi Tariq Hassan was the Chief Guest while Assistant Director Sindh Social Work Department Hijab Manzar, Chairman Memon Khidmat Forum Haji Masood Parekh, Waqar ul Hasan of Mobile Zone, Sakina Shahkir, Rafique Majeed, Anwar Sheikh, A K Memon, Ali Hasan Sajid, Malik Tariq Hussain, Junaid Shekhani, Nouman ul Haq were the special guest. The meeting was hosted by president SWO Qari Hilal Ahmed Rabbani. While delivering welcome address, the President SWO Qari Hilal Ahmed Rabbani highlighted the historical importance of the Khalikdina Hall and its place as the milestone of Pakistan movement. He said it is the place from where the Pakistan movement picked up the road with a new direction and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah decided
to transform the All India Muslim League into a more vibrant Pakistan Muslim League. It is that memorable place where Maulana Muhammad Ali Jouhar was tried for revolt case. But the successive governments and responsible persons did not care about it. The result is that such a historical asset was put to negligence and was deteriorated. The building is in poor state and is a victim of persisting water and sewerage problems among so many others. He invites the attention of Naib Nazim to the fact that Khalikdina Hall is our pride history and we should preserve its architectural, cultural, historical and political significance. Qari Hilal elaborated the services of the SWO and said the organization has given support to some 18 lacs students. He also indicated that at average 400 students visited the library on daily basis to get knowledge. He affirmed that SWO would keep its sacred mission in future with further zeal and valour.

Naib Nazim Tariq Hassan in his address felicitated the role of office bearers of SWO on successful holding of the function and said he is much impressed by the contribution of SWO in helping students to get knowledge. He also pledged to provide necessary help regarding maintenance of the hall and provision of pure drinking water. He said it is a pathetic situation that giving education has become a source of minting money and getting education is being expensive day by day. In this scenario, the role of SWO is highly commendable as it is determined to educate the children of poor families.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Memon Khidmat Forum Haji Masood Parekh said SWO has started a holy war against ignorance and illiteracy and we will be victorious in achieving the goals of providing equal and quality education to all those who seek to the illuminated with knowledge. He appealed to the Chief Guest that a 25 percent quota of poor students be fixed in the private schools so that poor students could get education equally well with the rich students. He said we would continue our endeavors to support poor families in this regard.

Assistant Director Hijab Manzar said all religions support the spread of knowledge. In Islam those are friends of God who acquire and spread knowledge. He said I am proud of being today amongst the knowledge lovers.

Chairman Mobile Zone Waqar ul Hasan appreciated the role of SWO in spreading ray of knowledge in the poor masses and appealed to the rich people to support the efforts of SWO in bringing about educational revolution. Malik Tariq Hussain also spoke on the occasion. The programme also included tableaus and national songs. In the end, cheques were distributed among the deserving students amid an emotional and sentimental atmosphere.
