Suppose i add a face with color "red" to a text "XXX" in current buffer.
Then i define an overlay and add a face-property to this overlay which has
color "green". This overlay should cover the whole buffer (maybe senseless but
it's just an example)!
Ok, now my question: Is the text "XXX" (which has "red"-text-properties, see
above) displayed now green or red?
many thanks in advance!
Klaus

/----[ Elisp manual (Info-goto-node "(elisp)Overlay Properties") ]
| Currently, all overlays take priority over text properties.
\----
So it seems the text would be green.

It will surly appear in green color (I use this all the time).
If you have more than 1 face-property overlay on the same text then
the face that is shown depends on the priority of the overlay, the
higher priority (larger number) will be shown. Use:
(overlay-put <overlay-name> 'priority <priority-value>)
to set the overlay priority.
