Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Recently I discovered the generic.el package for defining simple modes.
I can't find it mentioned in the Emacs manual, FAQ, elisp intro or elisp reference manual.  Shouldn't there at least be a mention of its existence in one of these documents.
