This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

In GNU Emacs 20.7.2 (i386-debian-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
of Tue Jun 20 2000 on raven
configured using `configure i386-debian-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --sharedstatedir=/var/lib --libexecdir=/usr/lib --localstatedir=/var/lib --infodir=/usr/share/info --with-pop=yes --with-x=yes --with-x-toolkit=yes'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Actions:

I created a file whose name contained a newline character.

(Yes, I know that's not normally a good thing to do. I'm testing some
things, and thought trusty Emacs dired mode would be a convenient way to
clean up my directory.)

I deleted the file,
- in one case, by typing 'd' on the dired buffer line and then typing 'x' (and
  confirming)
- in another case, by typing 'm' on the dired buffer line and then typing 'D'
  (and confirming)

Emacs deleted the file, but...

Symptom:

... the dired buffer was not updated to reflect the deletion.

Additionally, typing 'g' to refresh the dired buffer didn't remove the
(split) line for the deleted file.

It is very hard for Dired to do the right thing when file names
contain newlines. It probably can't manage to handle that situation
perfectly, but maybe it can do better than it does now.

I don't think I should spend time on that. Would anyone else like to
work on it?
