It allows you to filter out the things you don't need a time. You can always view all groups by pressing A u in the group buffer, you can= also rebind that to another key such as o. However you can customize also customize gnus-permanently-visible-groups to have all the groups you want to have always visible. I my self for examp= le have set this to always have the INBOX visible. You can set can customize the variable to a wild card to always view all groups. PS: Please don't top-post if you can.
