I hope it is clear to us that this is a religious statement in the sense, that GNU does stand for itself worth to be supported aside what software comes out of it. So something is good because of its label and not because of its functions and distributional context. To put it the other way round. Outweighs the context of distribution and licensing the functions and useability of a piece of software? Is it more important who did the work than that it was done? IMHO. It does only in a limited sense help the Free Software cause because it only helps GNU. GNU is not _the_ Free Software cause, is it?
