I am doing historical research into computing in the 1987 era - does
anyone have the source code tarball for GNU Emacs 18.49 from Sept.
1987? I am surprised that an historical editor like this doesn't have
old versions anywhere on the net.

Otherwise, you may search on old CDs or even tapes.  I don't have CD
from before 1990, so the emacs I have on them are at least emacs-19,
but it's possible there's some older CD with the sources you want.
