A question of register

I am using Emacs22-gtk
And want to copy something from Emacs to ANSYS
I use Ctrl_SPACE to select a region,then META_W to copy it 
but I can not yank it to the input textfield of ansys
I use VIM to see the content of registers
I see the content Emacs copyed is in register *
but some software expect to copy the content of register +
and if I select the region then use Edit->copy 
I can yank it 
How to choose register in Emacs,just as in VIM~

Which operating and windowing system do you use, that uses registers?! 
Usually CPUs, and particularly those from Intl, economize the use of 
silicon so you wouldn't find so many and so big ones that could held 
more than four bytes ...
