For the Nth time:

make maintainer-clean
make bootstrap

and report back if you still have a problem.

Hi Glenn,

One or two years ago i removed building that target, cause i thought it
was removed. Maybe this misperception occurred because GNU make has the
same error message:

*** No rule to make target `maintainer-clean'. Stop.

for two cases:

1- there is no makefile.
2- there is a makefile, but no target with that name.

Obviously i had 1, but assumed 2.

See other report.

With kind regards,
Christoph

No other report - worked now :-) Thank you.

I do something even stronger: I simply delete all files that aren't
under revision control. I happen to use "git", so for me the command
is

        git-clean -d -x -f .

Works every time.

Nice, unless you happen to have local .gitignore files.

It is an issue on Windows, because nt/makefile.w32-in does not have a
maintainer-clean target. In fact, only doc/*/makefile.w32-in and
leim/makefile.w32-in have it.

I had to remove lisp/calendar/*-loaddefs.el manually in order to be
able to bootstrap correctly.

So:

 - we document somewhere that if you have trouble with the *-loaddefs
files, you can delete them and bootstrap again, or
 - we add a maintainer-clean target to the Windows makefiles, or
 - we add a dependency to the Windows bootstrap-clean target to remove
the loaddefs, which will cause unnecesary regeneration of them but it
is otherwise safe.

 Juanma

Hopefully this is the last time for such problems...

Done.

Worth doing, for consistency alone IMO.

Not worth doing IMO.
