Obviously you're using something that converts EURO SIGN (at U+20AC)  
to CURRENCY SIGN (at U+00A4). Launch GNU Emacs with the option -Q and  
see whether it can display EURO SIGN without your and your system's  
customisation (that "display table") correctly.
