Hello everyone:

I want to install emacs on a cluster. The OS is turbo Linux. but they say :


[siap@ganode002 emacs-21.3]$ ./configure --prefix=/home/user/siap/emacs
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
configure: error: Emacs hasn't been ported to `x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu' systems
.
Check `etc/MACHINES' for recognized configuration names.


how to fix it? or it is can not be fixed?

Hum feel a bug report and ask Emacs developers what are their plans to support such
architecture.

The next Emacs release (Emacs 22) will support x86_64.  See my
User-Agent header.  See also the recent thread "Emacs on AMD64" on this list:
http://search.gmane.org/search.php?group=gmane.emacs.help&query=Emacs+AMD64

I don't know about your distribution, but others like SuSE provide
64-bit versions of Emacs 21 for their 64-Bit distributions.

Before that: check the gnu.emacs.help group where this has of course been
discussed already.

Reiner just has already answered arguing that it will be part of Emacs 22.
The OP should try to use Emacs CVS to see if it works for him.
