Subject: GNU Screen 5.0.0 and Emacs italics bug?
Date: Mon, 02 Sep 2024 22:39:15 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <-pGdyn8-o_2NtmkusjOSlJlC5GkSXcavyH6bhDYgXNpdi_K_T3RA38RZXOfeXOlQwyP1pj849YnptsGlWVX3LY8Ev8Ni1Ayrx88Ii4l9jNc=@proton.me> (raw)

Hi all,

There is a longstanding issue running Emacs within GNU Screen. Me and
others, including Eli, reported this issue last year:

https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=36676

GNU Screen just released v5.0.0. I have just tested v5.0.0 and the same
problem seems to persist, which makes modern Emacs (v29.4 in my case)
hard to use. Namely:

> Emacs does indeed have italics support after switching to screen
> master [now v5.0.0]. However, it is broken. What should be italics, is
> displayed underlined. But some italics show up now e.g. in the menu
> bar. And outside Emacs, but still inside screen, xterm now displays
> italics correctly.

Can someone else reproduce this issue please?

Thanks,
J
