hi
my system:
winxp + emacs + tex + ispell
my problem:
german umlauts will not be checked by ispell
perhaps someone knows how to solve this problem

This doesn't provide enough information to dare a diagnosis. What are
your specific ispell settings in you .emacs (or in a system wide
configuration file)? What are your language settings? Do you use
Latin-1/UTF-8 or Latin-9 (if that is possible with LaTeX) or some TeX
encoding for umlauts?
If you can not find your ispell settings, at least please post the
return value of this:
(assoc ispell-dictionary ispell-dictionary-alist)
And while we are at it, please put the cursor at one of those umlauts
and hit `C-u C-x ='.

It is! I've just tried it yesterday. Just a matter of
"\usepackage[latin9]{inputenc}". That's teTeX 1.0.2.
