I rejected that approach for what I want to do. If it cannot be done
through elisp, I will reject the activation of that feature.

If the Lisp part has serious problems, the thing to take from all this,
is to improve the lisp part so it will not stay so problematic.

Will do so. I should have been more specific about the theme related problem.

How is it that Emacs Maintainers, knowing very well that modus-themes is the only
theme designed with serious accessibility standards, do not make them the default
themes. Defaults should be designed to suit most people. Being able to distinguish
text and using a good enough colour contrast is technical wisdom that any developer
worth his salt should understand and act upon.
