All the 10.4 DVD's I have seen are a full 10.4, which will either upgrade or install anew. It would be a pain if you had to rebuild a trashed system by first installing 10.3 and then upgrading. I've never heard anyone have to do such a thing, as would be needed if there was an "upgrade only" DVD. Did you actually look on the dvd and scroll down? The only step to proceed through is mounting the CD and scrolling down. Do *NOT* start an install or upgrade. Just scroll down the window. Really. Try it. If you are talking about "not getting to that step", that sure sounds like you are trying to do an install/upgrade instead of just scrolling down the window. > Another person (herapx@gmail.com) has posted similar experience: "When > I try to install x11usr.pkg, I am told that i am not allowed to do that > because newer software is already in the computer. Where? What do i do > now?" See that thread. That's exactly the message I got in my 10.4 system when I tried to use the x11usr.pkg downloaded from Apple's. The x11usr.pkg from Apple's web site is 10.3 only (unless they have upgraded it since I last looked) and gets *exactly* that message if you try to install it on a 10.4 system. And I've seen several other people get the same message from installing the x11usr.pkg from Apple. Where did you get x11.pkg if it wasn't from the DVD? If it was from Apple's web site, that's exactly the one that I and several others got... and we saw exactly the same message. The solution in every case has been to install the pkg that is on the 10.4 DVD instead. -- Richard Maine | Good judgement comes from experience; email: last name at domain dot net | experience comes from bad judgement. domain: summertriangle | -- Mark Twain
