Have you tried following the installation instructions in
INSTALL.windows? What problems did you encounter?

Thanks for your help.

I cann't access www.mingw.org, and cygwin is too big and difficult
to me, so I cannot get MSYS tool set, and I have no any experience of
using msys . I remember that installing auctex 11.1x only need copying it
and changing .emacs, why installing auctex 11.5x is more difficult?
Is there a installing method that is like installing auctex 11.1x?

I have no problem whatsoever. Going through the page, the download
location appears to be
<URL:http://prdownloads.sf.net/mingw/MSYS-1.0.10.exe?download>
at the moment.

Just follow instructions.

> I remember that installing auctex 11.1x only need copying it and

No. It required editing several files, copying stuff around, changing
it and so on.

> why installing auctex 11.5x is more difficult?

It is simpler. And we don't have to maintain basically different
installation methods for Unix and Windows, to boot.

> Is there a installing method that is like installing auctex 11.1x?

Apart from doing everything manually that the scripts for installation
do, no. And it would be pretty beside the point, anyway.

Apart from that, having MSYS in your path will greatly increase the
usability of Emacs since commands like `grep', `grep-find', `dired'
and a lot of similar stuff require the availability of Unix-like
commands.

  I can't visit too.

Maybe this site is banned gratuitously by China's autocratic
government. You should visit it through proxy.

I have absolutely no clue why they would block _that_ of all sites. I
mean, the Chinese government embraces Linux and independence from
proprietary software, and the whole mingw project is quite important
as a stepping stone there. Unfortunately, it will probably be quite
difficult to find someone to complain to about this.

> but now I had downloaded the MSYS from the url. Thanks very much.

Well, we certainly don't want to block Chinese users from using AUCTeX
on Windows, so we probably need to figure out what other URLs we
should mention in the docs, even though they might be more
short-lived. What a nuisance.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Maybe they believe it is for people who want to overthrow the current
regime and instead reestablish the Ming dynasty? :-) :-(

The vases of the era are more or less known as a "brand name" in
Europe. "Ming vase" is probably as topical in the West like
"MacDonalds hamburger" is in the East. Cultural highlights...

Thanks for your help, David Kastrup.

I am a newbie of emacs, msys,linux...

When I run
./configure
or
./configure --with-emacs

I get:
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /bin/install -c
checking for emacs... /c/Program Files/emacs/bin/emacs
checking if /c/Program Files/emacs/bin/emacs is XEmacs... cat: ./conftest-3976: No such file or directory
configure: error: Unable to run /c/Program Files/emacs/bin/emacs! Aborting!

And I indeed can run emacs directly from MSYS(I had add the path
to my PATH). I use ntemacs from http://www.crasseux.com/emacs/

Help, please!

There can be two reasons, I think:

a) you are using the wrong syntax -- you write /c/Program Files/, try
   c:/Program Files/, that is:

   ./configure --prefix=c:/Program Files/emacs

b) if it still doesn't work, it is due to the space in the directory
name `Program Files'. Either install Emacs into something like
c:/emacs, or get a developer version of AUCTeX, it should be fixed
   there

You could also try using the spaceless equivalent, probably something
like
c:/PROGRA~1/emacs

Yes, it will likely be fixed in the next release, but AUCTeX is pretty
much alone in trying to deal with this sort of stuff. Avoiding spaces
in file names will tend to save you headaches also with other programs
and installation procedures.

We _aim_ for getting even this sort of junk right, but there might be
times when we don't reach home plate, and other package authors might
not even bother at all.

Thank Christian Schlauer and David Kastrup!

I relocate emacs on c:\emacs and it works very well. New auctex looks
very exciting. I appreciate your great work, David Kastrup.
