It seems it fails under Mac OS X, but elsewhere try M-x
auto-compression-mode that's bound to the Options/Automatic File
Decompression menu item.

No, it works also under OSX (here : CVS version and 10.3.6).
What is your problem ?

Going to cvs update this evening.
It simply ignore the flag from the menu (I'll try the sacred named command).
Anyway, anyone here with a good fontset configuration for iso8859-15
characters under Carbon Emacs ?

Maybe you could try my cvs checkout from 2004-11-12 ? I have build the
installer under 10.3.6.
I have just put it there :

I have tried this one, but i still have some conflicts (for example, i get
the euro symbol displayed from the unicode 0100-24ff but i have a white
square in latin-9 with the lucida grande):
(create-fontset-from-fontset-spec
"-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--9-*-*-*-*-*-fontset-monaco,
ascii:-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--9-90-75-75-m-90-mac-roman,
mule-unicode-0100-24ff:-apple-lucida grande-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-m-0-mac-roman,
mule-unicode-2500-33ff:-apple-bitstream vera sans mono bold-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-m-0-mac-roman,
latin-iso8859-15:-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--9-90-75-75-m-90-mac-roman,
latin-iso8859-1:-apple-monaco-medium-r-normal--9-90-75-75-m-90-mac-roman"
)
Maybe it would give you some tricks ?
Ideally, i would have convert linux unifont (iso10646 encoding) to osx font
format with fontforge, but it crashes :(

The latest build doesn't ignore the "Automatic file decompression" menu item.
And thanks for your fontset!!!!!! It worked fine!

Ok.

Really ? What do you get, for example with the euro sign ? Emacs keeps on
inserting an euro utf symbol...
Would you mind to share your config file ?
My problem is that i can't get some unicode chars and i can't make osx
accept my unix fonts like unifont.
For example : M-: (insert "\x4912f") should insert a dot character but only
get a slash. I would have use some unicode font for a nice tree display in
Gnus.

Going to check this. I got an \200 on a message from a friend of mine
But finally I was able to read
perché è fatto così
(because it's done this way) invece che

(each [] is a rectangle like those you get in HELLO when you miss a gliph)

Yep the osx one.
Hehe, i also use emacs on several platforms, but i keep an unified .emacs to
avoid to search and update separate .emacs...
Maybe you can take a look at
http://sebastien.kirche.free.fr/emacs_stuff/emacs
I have just updated it. *Beware* : it's kinda work in progress and it need
some housework. But look at the beginning where i have some defines specific
to windows linux and mac.

I have several computers too, and on different separate networks (home
net and work net). But you just suggested me a good idea... I could use
work CVS - and use VPN from home to access it -

I'll do for sure.

Thanks!
My emacs and emacs-lisp skills are a perpetual work in progress :)
