Used to work in 24.2.  Now multi-page pdfs often act as if there is
only 1 page (they say 1/1, but the pdf is multipage, as shown by e.g., okular)

It seems to be intermittent - some multi-page pdfs work correctly.

Yes, I can confirm (Mac OS X 10.5.8). It happens for me particularly with a PDF file created with XeTeX which has, via eso-pic package, a PDF image in the background. Sometimes all pages are displayed, sometimes not; sometimes magnification works, sometimes not.
