Still having problems with SMTP and Gnus

        I'm trying to  set up Gnus so that I can  send mail through my
SMTP server.   I can access the  server fine through  evolution, and I
just upgraded to  the newest CVS version of emacs --  fresh as of last
night.

My .gnus looks like:

What am I doing wrong?  I really want to use Gnus for SMTP mail.

Try adding "mail.".

Something to try out quickly:

For me AUTH only began working when I entered 
(setq smtpmail-auth-credentials "/home/<user>/.authinfo")

and then in .authinfo have the line 
machine <complete server name> port 25 login <user name> password <password>
