I am running emacs21 under X11 on a Mac laptop. I have a scroll-wheel
mouse, and I have a nasty habit of unintentionally discarding buffers.
It happens when the mouse pointer is on the "Discard Buffers" icon and
I absent-mindedly scroll down with the scroll wheel.
I'd like to remove the "Discard Buffers" icon altogether, unless anyone
has a better solution. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Ig

Remove the toolbar (in Options->Show/Hide, then save the options)! What
is it good for? How often did you use it the last ten years -- I mean
on purpose?
In lisp/toolbar/tool-bar.el line #229 (GNU Emacs 22.0.50 from CVS)
(tool-bar-add-item-from-menu 'kill-this-buffer "close")
is the line to comment. Then byte-compile the buffer or file.

Wow, that is surely a bug! (I can reproduce it on Solaris, BTW.)

(define-key tool-bar-map [kill-buffer] nil)
