Remove the toolbar (in Options->Show/Hide, then save the options)! What
is it good for? How often did you use it the last ten years -- I mean
on purpose?
In lisp/toolbar/tool-bar.el line #229 (GNU Emacs 22.0.50 from CVS)
(tool-bar-add-item-from-menu 'kill-this-buffer "close")
is the line to comment. Then byte-compile the buffer or file.
