While many have hit the limit and been shocked at finding an imperfection in Emacs, they then are directed to tools like grep, sed, perl, head and tail, and realise that for huge files a full screen editor that works on buffers is an inferior solution to command line tools that work on streams, and their motivation for somehow shoehorning this different way of working into Emacs disappears as there is no practical need.
