There is a function
(defun ourcomments-org-complete-and-replace-file-link ()
in ourcomments-util.el in nXhtml. Perhaps that does what you want. (I
am not sure if some version of this ever got included in org. Was it
included? In that case I will throw my version into the big basket.)
