hi there

in dired i want to copy file to a directory which only root can write.

in a shell i could do the copying via sudo cp <from> <to>. any idea how
i can tell dired to use "sudo cp" instead of "cp" and how do i provide
then the sudo password?

cheers, leo

You don't. Instead, you specify the file using ange-ftp or tramp syntax, e.g

/root@localhost:/only-root-could-write-this-file.txt
