minibuf: how to "grab" (M-W) it's text?

Like in any other buffer: the minibuffer is a normal Emacs buffer,
it's just displayed specially.

Besides buffer-string and buffer-substring, see minibuffer-prompt,

minibuffer-prompt-end, and minibuffer-contents.

Maybe you are talking about the echo area?  It shares screen space
with the minibuffer; both are active at different times.

See the *Messages* buffer for the echo area stuff.  At least most of
it.
