FWIW, I have this in my emacs for Windows, Linux, and AIX:

; gnuserv

(require 'gnuserv)
(gnuserv-start)

On Windows, running "gnuclientw" just works.  On Unix, I have to start
one "emacs", and then use "gnuclient" once emacs is running.
