I have tried with
~/.Xresoureces
Emacs.menubar.font
Emacs.menu.font
Emacs.dialg.font
but it does not work.
I use Fedora Core 11 `genuine' Emacs 23
I want to decrease font size in order the menus fit
small screen size (of the netbook).
Emacs.font directive works BTW

Just a guess:
the info file for emacs at
"Appendix D X Options and Resources"
is full of examples for menu fonts...
did you already have look there?
it depends on the widgets-library you use...
