It seems that I was correct in assuming Emacs 28.1
is running a daemon thread. With the new GNU Version I am having trouble
loading
emacs.
When I type
$emacs
at the command prompt, it starts up Emacs but then after 6
seconds of loading it terminates itsel f.
When I type emacsclient -c it says the following message.
/snap/emacs/1609/usr/bin/emacsclient: can't find socket; have you started
the server?
/snap/emacs/1609/usr/bin/emacsclient: To start the server in Emacs, type
"M-x server-start".
/snap/emacs/1609/usr/bin/emacsclient: No socket or alternate editor.
Please use:
--socket-name
--server-file (or environment variable EMACS_SERVER_FILE)
--alternate-editor (or environment variable ALTERNATE_EDITOR)

Only if you start it with --daemon or run '(server-start)' from your
init file. Unless you mean the desktop environment run files that ship
with emacs, which can start emacs in daemon mode.

Well, it Emacs isnʼt running, then emacsclient wonʼt be able to
connect to it. You need to figure out why emacs is exiting. 'emacs -Q'
is normally a good start.

I have written the following batch file: runmacs.bat
cd ~ && emacs --geometry 1024x768 --debug-init $1 &
and placed it in the directory ~/Binaries
Then executing the command runmacs.bat starts emacs every time
(but not in daemon mode which is my personal preference)

I have following setup in a script, and I start script by clicking
with mouse on an icon. If server has started, it runs emacsclient,
otherwise it starts server, waits 10 seconds and open emacsclient.
#!/bin/bash
export EMACS_SOCKET_NAME="/run/user/1001/emacs/server"
if pgrep -f "emacs --bg-daemon" > /dev/null
then
espeak "Starting Emacs client"
emacsclient -c
else
espeak "Starting Emacs daemon"
emacs --bg-daemon
sleep 10
emacsclient -c
fi
