Hello,
I have a mac laptop running osx. I'm using a pc usb keyboard. I can't
get emacs to recognize the ALT key as a META key. When I type 'ALT k', for
instance, I get a 'u' with a grave accent. Is there a way to remap the alt
key as a meta key?
Thanks,
Sean

Try adding to your .emacs file
(setq mac-command-key-is-meta nil)

It sounds like your keyboard's ALT key is correctly recognized as the
Mac option/alt key.
If you are running the CVS version of GNU Emacs built with the
--with-carbon option in GUI mode, set the variable
mac-command-key-is-meta to nil to use the option/alt key as META key.
This information is in the `Mac OS' section of the online manual.
Note that there may be problems with certain key combinations being
hidden by dead-key processing, though.
