I am able to remote edit on all of my remote systems except one. On that particular system, when I login, it shows that it's the correct file in the buffer, but the buffer is blank. If I do a
directory listing, I get the same blank buffer. The verions of emacs is 22.3.1. The OS on the remote system is Ubuntu 8.04.

If I create a new file and try to save it on the remote server, it says "No such file or directory", even though the dirctory is correct.

Could you, please, be a little bit more verbose? Which filename do you
try to open? Dou you have sufficient permissions to access the
file/directory?

Are there suspicious messages in the *Messages' buffer? If you use Tramp
(what I assume), could you enable its traces?

Best regards, Michael.
