Hi there,
I wanted to turn off the mouse selection / pasting feature of emacs. I
tried putting (mouse-sel-mode nil) in my .emacs file but that didn't work.
What am I doing wrong?
Cheers,
Peter

Does it help to set the variables interprogram-cut-function and
interprogram-paste-function to nil?

No, it didn't. What do those variables do?
Cheers,
Peter.

They enable the interaction between Emacs and the X selection machinery
(or the clipboard if you are on Windows).
