setting keyboard up and down arrow keys

Hi,

I'm new to this list, so appreciate all the good advice.

I work with a PC and use Hummingbird Exceed to access my redhad Linux
environment.  Once that is set up I run emacs (actually Emacs speaks
statistics) to run R sessions.

I want to take advantage of the up and down arrow keys to scroll back to
commands I've already submitted.

Is is feasible to map the keyboard to recognize this functionality?

I am not sure how you are running the program, but if it is some sort
of comint mode, comint-previous-input / comint-next-input commands can
be bound to the arrow keys.
