Hi,
I am using gnu emacs on Mac OS (without X11). Everything works fine so
far except the input of the tilde. I have a German keyboard and have to
use AltGr to get to the `~'. It works fine in Mac OS in general, but
emacs somehow thinks that AltGr is the same as Alt.
What can I do? Thanks!
Best wishes
Stefan

Dear Stefan,
this is one of the reasons I prefer to use Aquamacs on the Mac: it has excellent built-in support for German keyboards.
Warm regards,
Stefan

There is also what they call a "Mac port" of GNU emacs. This name is not appropriate now. But it uses a different toolkit (I guess). I'm using it to give me the ability to catch Apple events.
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.devel/113590 should be a good starting point.
But, looking at Aquamacs, I think I'll give it a try too although I'm really happy with what I have.

The Aquamacs people have done a fantastic job to make Emacs fit into the
MaxOS X Aqua environment, but if what you want is a somewhat "cleaner"
_Emacs_ envirnoment, but operating under MacOS X, then maybe
http://emacsformacosx.com/
is what you're looking for.

This is what I have and I am perfectly happy with this (I am very old
and do not want to learn new stuff =;-), the only problem is, that this
version of emacs somehow things I have two Alt keys instead of one Alt
key (left) and an AltGr key (right). I need the AltGr to type the `~'
and this works properly in all other applications.
Thanks!
Stefan

Try M-x apropos-variable modifier RET and reset the one for your AltGr
key via the customisation interface.
