When running mvn command in compile-mode, any time maven starts
downloading a large file,
GNU Emacs 23.0.94.1 on Win XP hangs and I have to kill it. I'm pretty
sure it is because of intense
cursor movement the mvn command produces in order to provide status on
the download.
For example it outputs something like:
0K/5991K and then continuously overwrites that line with updated
status.
Anyone out there have a configuration fix for this?

On UNIX and in GNU Emacs 23.1.90 (GNU Emacs 23.1 exists as stable
release) this is OK. It's actually a libncurses effect by which some
part of the screen gets over and over overwritten.

Hey that's awesome thanks! I downloaded 23.1.90 from:

http://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/windows/

And I'm a happy camper again.
