There are many ways to switch among buffers, including different ways to cycle among them or match their names. Different users like different approaches, whether due to the different ways they use Emacs or just to personal preference. Always remember that you can search not only the Emacs manual but also the Emacs Wiki: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/SiteMap. The Wiki includes libraries that are not included within Emacs itself, and it also often includes discussion and advice about different approaches, including vanilla Emacs features.
