Hi,
How can I make programs that fire up $EDITOR (for example revision control
systems that make you enter comments at the time of submission) to use
emacs when I run them from eshell?

Hi!
Try to add one of these lines into your ~/.bashrc:
> export EDITOR="emacs"

or
> export EDITOR="emacsclient -c"

and run
> source ~/.bashrc
>
to apply these changes immediately.
