Dear all,
I want to find a replacement for ido as it sometimes causes emacs to
freeze.
Any suggestions?

Uh, that shouldn't happen. How can you be sure that this is ido's fault.

For buffer switching iswitchb is quite similar, at least the
appearance. I don't know how much keybindings differ.

But of course you should write a bug report. I'm using ido for years without
it freezing Emacs...

It might be a bug in Emacs as I am using emacs 23.0.0. But it seems to
happen when switching buffer. So I guess ido might be the culprit.
