I should add for posterity's sake that interactive forms do work in
defadvice:

(defun foo (beg end)
  (interactive "r")
  (message "%s %s" beg end))

(defadvice foo (around foo-adv activate)
  (interactive
   (list (point-min) (point-max)))
  ad-do-it)
