Hi,

an interesting phenomenon happened today
and even yesterday in reading the Emacs manual.

Opening Emacs org.file my German org.file doesn´t show
the German mutated vowels but "\303\266" instead.
Numbers instead of mutated vowels. (German: ü, ä)

How can I solve this?

thanks for your thoughts

Gottfried

Hi,
now it works again and this problem is solved.
I don´t know where did it come from and why did it go.

Emacs guessed your file's encoding wrong. This happens sometimes.

If Emacs recognizes the encoding of a file incorrectly, you can reread
the file using the correct coding system with ‘C-x <RET> r’
(‘revert-buffer-with-coding-system’). This command prompts for the
coding system to use. To see what coding system Emacs actually used to
decode the file, look at the coding system mnemonic letter near the left
edge of the mode line (*note Mode Line::), or type ‘C-h C’
(‘describe-coding-system’).

I strongly suspect that the issue is that you opened the file while
Emacs was in some kind of recursive edit, where the outer code had
let-bound `coding-system-for-read`, or something like that.
[ I consider such situations as bugs. ]
