Don't google first. Try Emacs Wiki first: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/Search. You'll find pages like this one: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/LineNumbers. Actually, try Emacs itself first, for help.
