Well, there's always the super-hacky way:
(require 'cl)
(defadvice your-function-of-interest
(around replace-delete-with-kill activate)
"Replace `delete-region' with `kill-region'."
(flet ((delete-region (x y)
(kill-region x y)))
ad-do-it))
And then just yank...
